The Vintage Inspiration

MF Guitars was born out of a desire to recreate the tone of vintage pickups from the 50s and 60s. Modern pickups often possess different characteristics than their vintage counterparts, leading many players to seek out the classic tones of the past. The unique sound and feel of those early pickups inspired a deep dive into what made them special.

TEsting & Discovery

Extensive testing of both current and vintage pickups has revealed a distinct difference in tone and response. These differences can't be replicated without rigorous research, experimentation, and a commitment to traditional materials and winding techniques. Vintage pickups are highly sought after and often command high prices because many players believe they simply sound better.

Why Pickups Matter

The importance of having the right pickups in your guitar cannot be overstated. Pickups are the first and most critical component in shaping your tone—they define the fundamental characteristics of the signal sent from your guitar to your amp or pedalboard. A great pickup can bring out the best in your playing, while a poor one can hold it back.

Tone & Responce

Tonal character directly affects how your pedals behave, especially overdrive, distortion, and fuzz. The right pickups can unlock dynamic, expressive responses from your rig. High-quality Pre-CBS-style pickups are widely regarded as essential in the pursuit of truly great tone—and that’s the mission at the heart of MF Guitars.

Testimonial

“I mounted the mics Marc Foley Pre CBS on my Fender Custom Shop relic 60.

I am very happy with my PU, very pleasant, more attack, the sound dug and aggressive months than the original ones. The bass microphone has pretty low, the high pickup is less aggressive, more velvety. The intermediate positions are to be delighted. I'm discovering my guitar."
